Early in 2012, local singer-songwriter Kirsten “Haze” Hazler began hosting a monthly music showcase known as “Naked Songs”. Named after a raw acoustic record by Rickie Lee Jones, the concept of Naked Songs is music stripped down to its bare essence. Each showcase would feature several singer-songwriters presenting their original songs, performing solo with acoustic instruments only. Loops and effects pedals were not permitted. The audience was treated to an intimate musical experience, while songwriters had the rare opportunity for their lyrics to be heard in a setting similar to a listening room.
The monthly showcase continued through the end of 2013, at which point Haze put the show on indefinite hold. She intended to bring Naked Songs back to Richmond in some format in the future, but was not sure when or where. When fellow songwriter Paulo Franco approached her about it early in 2015, she knew it was time to get back on the horse, but this time with Paulo as her partner.
Haze and Paulo are currently looking for the right venue, and plan to get the show back on stage before the end of the year. Stay tuned! In the meantime, please join our Facebook group and check out the posters from previous shows.
